Six months later it seems the world is still dealing with random bullshit. Awesome!
Let’s just focus on our own miniature bullshit instead…
Twitch DMCA’s
The most prevalent topic right now for us are the sudden onset of Twitch DMCA’s hitting streamers as of late, which you can read more about here if you’d like. To make a long story short, streamers are being hit with DMCA’s on their old VODS or clips that contain any sort of copyrighted music, and are not really being given a chance to correct the violation, instead being forced to essentially nuke all their VODs at once. While it may be obvious that you should never play copyrighted music on streams since you could be hit by that banner at any time, the main issue comes from bogus DMCA claims and the usual complete lack of Twitch giving us decent tools to work with. To make matters worse, if we take no action and receive three strikes on our channels we are terminated.
As of the date of this writing, I have thankfully not been hit with any DMCA hits on the channel. I have actually always foreseen an event like this happening and have always taken steps to minimize the amount of external music that is ever played on stream. The only music ever played on the channel are always OST’s from video games, or Chillhop Music, which they have gratefully allowed me to use their music on stream under a license. Even with my precautions however, a few of the VODs on the channel do have erroneous muted audio on them (mainly the Persona Q2 VODs).
To that end, I have decided to take a few steps to secure our old VODs and attempt to further safeguard for the coming future:
VOD Migration
Our resident moderator zombiexm has begun to painstakingly migrate all the main VODs from the channel to unlisted playlists on the YouTube channel. Thankfully our VODs are mostly well organized which makes this task a bit easier; however we are still working with caveman Twitch tools so it may still take a while. The end goal is to successfully migrate all the VODs to YouTube and delete their equivalents on Twitch.
Why YouTube?
While YouTube is also plagued with the same DMCA problems Twitch has (this is after all the fault of an out of date law rather than the companies themselves), the reality is that YouTube offers far more reasonable tools to deal with bogus DMCA claims, and also offers far superior video support and a viewing experience than Twitch has ever bothered to develop.
Accessing the Unlisted VODs
Why are the playlists unlisted on the YouTube channel and how do we view them?
The YouTube channel’s primary purpose is to share the random song extensions I am sometimes inspired to make that aren’t readily available anywhere else. For the most part it is important for channels to stick to a primary purpose; hence why suddenly dumping a bunch of random VODs would probably mess with that other experience the viewers there expect. VODs also are not a feature that is frequently used; however I still believe that it should be accessible somewhere.
The links to access all of the VODs being migrated now and in the future will now have a permanent resting place here on the forums. This specific forum thread will only contain VODs of the channel, organized by game. A forum account will not be required to view this particular forum thread (but you should make one anyway!), so they should all be viewable even without logging in.
Keep in mind that once the migration is completed, all future VODs will be migrated to YouTube in the same format and linked here in this forum thread. The end goal is to simply eliminate the VODs on Twitch for the foreseeable future (until Twitch decides to give us more sensible tools for dealing with bullshit DMCA claims).
End of Year Events
BugFrag Leaderboard Reset
As we are coming up to the end of the year, be reminded that the BugFrag leaderboard will reset upon the start of the new year once again. However as a small bonus, whoever is at the top of the BugFrag leaderboards on Discord will get a small end of year reward.
Discontinuation of BugFrag Trader
The BugFrag Trader (the service that allows you to exchange BugFrags for Zenny) will also be discontinued upon the end of the year. Its not a feature that was used very often and took a hassle to keep an eye on.
The Trader might make a return once a year for certain events.
Zenny Shop
This is just a reminder that the Zenny Shop is still always open and constantly being updated with small rewards for your hard earned zenny. Don’t feel bad about using it whenever something is in stock; it’s there for everyone to make use of and enjoy. There are always a few people using it; don’t let them hoard all the joy…
Song Extension Requests
I’m also looking for new song extension ideas. If you have any suggestions for an OST I should extend, please leave a message on the forums or the form!
Thanks for keeping this a relaxing and fun endeavor for me to partake in. Unless some other random bullshit happens, see you on the next stream.
